Due to Lockdown I have been able to do what otherwise never figured in my interests. I was always aware of the massive popularity fans in India had for the cult figure Dev Sahab. But I didn't know why. While observing lockdown I watched all his movies beginning from the colour Guide jumping into the black and white movies of early 50s. My god it has been a revelation. We proud ourselves to be young generation who know the idea of romance, comedy, story, melody. After revisiting the old days I realised OLD is ALWAYS GOLD.
I am fond of watching good romance films. I have been searching for an original story in Hollywood archives, Bollywood but it was right there in our golden era...in early50s, 60s....in the black and white era. The aesthetic appeal with which emotions are displayed is sheer impeccable. No ostentatious appeal to costumes, locales etc.
Even though Dev Anand cinema is an institution in itself. It was like archives for those who were to come ahead. From where did these people learn? He said in one of his interviews that he learnt it through 'trials and errors'.
He was a visionary, an original story-teller. He essayed gamuts of roles and each was different from the previous ones. He took active involvement in deciding the music for which his films. He was thoroughly involved. I revelled in being basics not what they show on cinema these days. All his characters were drawn from the real life and thus explains his natural acting which made him an instant favourite. He was so handsome, witty, intelligent actor. Here are my favourites. If you wish to understand good cinema which could boost your sense of existence and give you an emotional high then you must watch the following listed movies---
