My son's birthday Gems Choco Cake (eggless)

Today is my son's fourth birthday. I don't know where the time has flown. It seems he was born just yesterday. Well, I bet all the mothers would feel the same about their children.
While observing lockdown I decided to bake choco gems whole wheat cake for my heart.

with my parents....

This is simply a mother's love which can be substituted by a market baked cake. Bakers would agree, right! I enjoyed baking it and I knew I am giving my son a healthy, hygienic cake especially in times of pandemic that has gripped the world.

stay safe, stay home...

Flaxseeds & Orange Scones

Orange Raisins Scones

Orange Crinkle cookies

let your plant plant a seed today

Lockdown brought various joys which I could have never done otherwise. One such moment was when my son sowed cardamom seeds in a pot.

To sow a seed, then observe it turning into a sapling, those tiny shoots coming out on its own is nothing sort of a magic. Give your child the feeling of being with nature.

Why reading to your child is important?

Today I am going to emphasize on how important is reading to your child. By doing so you inculcate

  • Reading habit
  • provides vocabularly
  • boosts questioning, creative thinking creativity
  • enagages their mind
  • GK
  • learn to describe and much more.....

A still from one of my reading sessions with my 4-year-old son.

Lend the hand to your kid to make build the world he would inhabit tomorrow :)

Mini Dosa Pizza

This is the mini pizza made from the dosa batter. It's a mini version of uttapam but children devour it given its miniature size. Sprinkled with cheese, it's one of the best healthy substitute for your child's snack.

Best of Dev Anand's movies

Due to Lockdown I have been able to do what otherwise never figured in my interests. I was always aware of the massive popularity fans in India had for the cult figure Dev Sahab. But I didn't know why. While observing lockdown I watched all his movies beginning from the colour Guide jumping into the black and white movies of early 50s. My god it has been a revelation. We proud ourselves to be young generation who know the idea of romance, comedy, story, melody. After revisiting the old days I realised OLD is ALWAYS GOLD.

I am fond of watching good romance films. I have been searching for an original story in Hollywood archives, Bollywood but it was right there in our golden era...in early50s, 60s....in the black and white era. The aesthetic appeal with which emotions are displayed is sheer impeccable. No ostentatious appeal to costumes, locales etc.

Even though Dev Anand cinema is an institution in itself. It was like archives for those who were to come ahead. From where did these people learn? He said in one of his interviews that he learnt it through 'trials and errors'.

He was a visionary, an original story-teller. He essayed gamuts of roles and each was different from the previous ones. He took active involvement in deciding the music for which his films. He was thoroughly involved. I revelled in being basics not what they show on cinema these days. All his characters were drawn from the real life and thus explains his natural acting which made him an instant favourite. He was so handsome, witty, intelligent actor. Here are my favourites. If you wish to understand good cinema which could boost your sense of existence and give you an emotional high then you must watch the following listed movies---

What's the most precious gift you can give your child?

Lockdown has given the luxury of time to everyone. And not to say how much children enjoy attention when they are just toddlers. It's a critical time when they are trying to make sense of this world, the most important thing which we can given them is our quality time. Nothing  absolutely nothing, can substitute your time for your child. As it is the world that we are heading for is not safe. Why not at least make it memorable for our child by being available as much as we can.

Jam Thumprint Cookies (Eggless and Whole Wheat)

Baking amidst lockdown continues#

These cookies are a healthy version of the original recipe. Those who follow my recipes know that I never use maida for my bake goods. So, this one too is wholesome and enriched with the goodness of whole wheat flour. And good for kids and adults alike.

To beat down the imposed lockdown, I now decided to make Jam Thumprint Cookies along with my son. He has fun baking it just as I do. As the saying goes that it takes two to tango. We two had great fun baking these crispy, sweet, crunchy jam cookies. Here are few shots at it:

Here is the recipe...

Each time I bake I feel I am at peace with myself. That's the beauty of this art. And I never stop trying a single recipe till it is done to my satisfaction. That's how I learn by trials and errors.

Happy baking to you guys!
